North America Directory

“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”

~ Abraham Lincoln

North America is a subcontinent, part of the Americas covering over 9.5 million square miles. It is home to over 530 million people and includes 23 independent states. It’s also where we call home.

The ISOOSI North America directory is a huge repository of hundreds of thousands of web links divided into logical categories. We've included links to businesses, products, services, reference sources, educational establishments and organizations of all kinds.

The first inhabitants of North America are widely believed to be the Paleoindians, tribes of people who arrived during the last ice age over the Bering Land Bridge and by boat. These peoples evolved into the Native American tribes who wandered the huge land mass as nomads.

Europeans arrived sometime around 1497. It is now widely accepted that the name America is derived from one of the first explorers who landed here, Amerigo Vespucci. He had the country named after him by cartographers who made the first maps of the trip. America means land of Americus, the Latin form of Amerigo.

The European nations wasted no time in exploiting this new land. The Spanish, French and British all sent settlers here, quickly followed by Irish, German and Dutch. Our culture is an amazing amalgamation of all of these influences, which is why it is so rich.

The ISOOSI North America directory is a huge resource containing high quality, relevant links to all aspects of the subcontinent. Whatever your interest, you’re sure to find it here.
